According to HA Rose's classic encyclopedia A Glossary of the Tribes and Castes of the Punjab (1911) and Sir Lipp Griffin's The Punjab Chiefs (1865), the Bajwa clan traces its origins to the Rajput Raja Shalap. According to traditions, the descendants of Raja Shalap migrated from the deserts of Rajasthan to Punjab and eventually settled in the Bajwat area of Sialkot and Tehsil Pasrur. Dozens of large villages in Pasrur were settled by Bajwa families. His bravery, horsemanship and hospitality are legendary in the region.
